The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack in South Queensferry shortlisted among the UK's top fish and chip restaurants

A South Queensferry seafood restaurant is flying the flag for Scotland at the National Fish & Chip Awards. The Crab & Lobster Fish Shack has been named in the top ten shortlist for the Restaurant of the Year title in the 2027 awards, and it is the only fish and chip restaurant in Scotland on the list.

The awards are organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers and are seen as a benchmark for the industry. Judges look at food quality, customer experience, how the business is run and how staff are developed.

The shortlisting came at a busy time for the restaurant. The night before the news, it was named Best Fish & Chip Restaurant in Scotland at the Scottish Restaurant Awards, an award decided with the help of customer votes.

Owner Bryan Coghill said the team was incredibly proud and described the shortlisting as a huge achievement. He thanked loyal customers for their votes and suppliers for helping the restaurant shine, adding that he believes Scottish fish and seafood is the finest in the world and that the kitchen showcases it every day. Everything the restaurant does, he said, is designed to elevate fish and chips and give customers a consistent plate of food every time.

The restaurant opened in 2025 at Ferrymuir in South Queensferry, high above the Forth, and is run by the Coghill family. Its menu draws on what Scotland's local markets have to offer, from traditional battered haddock with proper chippy chips to crab and lobster dishes, and there is a click and collect service for those eating at home.

The ten shortlisted restaurants now move on to the next round, with a final five to be announced later this year. The overall winner will be crowned at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London on 24 February.

For the people of South Queensferry, it is a proud moment for a restaurant that has become a local favourite in a short time.
