Musselburgh music lovers have a new reason to keep their Tuesday afternoons free. The Brunton has curated a series of autumn afternoon concerts at Northesk Church, a venue known for its acoustics, as part of its ongoing commitment to wellbeing.

The organisers say the series recognises the positive effect live events can have on both mental and physical health. Each concert starts at 1.30pm and lasts around an hour, and audiences are invited to stay and socialise over a cup of tea afterwards, which is included in the ticket.

The programme spans Scottish traditional music, classical song and musical theatre. It opened on 13 October with Scottish harp player and composer Grace Stewart-Skinner, who blends traditional tunes with her own compositions and is known for using effects and techniques to create distinctive soundscapes on the harp.

On Tuesday 10 November, Cornish mezzo-soprano Amy Karensa and Scottish pianist Catriona MacKenzie present Women In Love and Life, a concert exploring women's experiences of love and life through the ages. The pair met at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and share a passion for Lieder, the German art songs that set poetry to music. Their programme travels from Romantic to 20th-century songs, including works by Robert Schumann, Carl Loewe and Madeline Dring.

The year ends on Tuesday 8 December with a concert celebrating Irving Berlin. Mezzo-soprano Jane Monari and tenor Christian Schneeberger will sing a selection of Berlin's songs as solos and duets, accompanied by pianist Derek Clark, who was head of opera at Scottish Opera for nearly 30 years. Jane studied at the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music and has performed many times with Scottish Opera, while Christian is a prizewinning graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Amy and Catriona's own career highlights include performances with the RSNO and at Wexford Festival Opera.

The Brunton is East Lothian's live arts organisation, programming theatre, music, comedy, film and family shows, along with community work and arts for all ages.

For anyone who finds evening concerts hard to get to, an hour of live music in the afternoon followed by tea and a chat is an inviting idea.

Tickets can be booked through The Brunton website or by calling the box office on 0131 653 5245.
