One of Edinburgh's best-known spas has been busy reinventing itself. One Spa, part of the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in the city centre, is in the middle of a five-month programme of new fitness, thermal and treatment experiences, backed by a £700,000 investment in the guest experience and the spa's long-term future.

Spa director Fiona Young says the way people think about wellness has changed, with guests looking beyond a single treatment or workout towards experiences that support movement, recovery, relaxation and wider wellbeing. The aim, she says, is to offer more choice in how people use the spa.

Movement has been one of the biggest areas of change. A new Reformer Pilates Studio has opened in response to growing demand for low-impact, strength-based exercise, and the fitness space has new Technogym equipment, virtual class technology and a functional training area. Earlier this year the spa also became the only Marriott property in the UK to offer Technogym's Checkup assessment, which measures areas such as body composition, strength, balance and mobility.

On the thermal side, a new Rasul Mud Bothy offers a self-guided experience, a poolside sauna has opened, a bigger steam room is being created, a new cooler experience room will support hot and cold contrast therapy, and a moss wall has been installed to bring a touch of nature indoors.

Treatments have had a refresh too. NOW Nail Bar has relaunched with OPI, and from October the spa is offering a new facial menu with Skin Rocks, the skincare brand founded by Caroline Hirons. The signature One Spa Skin Rocks Ritual is an 80-minute treatment that pairs a relaxing back massage with a tailored facial. The spa is also strengthening its approach to inclusive treatment, with further oncology training planned.

The investment builds on a strong record. One Spa was the first in Edinburgh to be awarded Five Bubble Luxury status by the independent Good Spa Guide, which praised its calm atmosphere, highly trained therapists and the rooftop hydropool. The spa has also partnered with The Academy Glasgow on a scholarship-style programme to train new therapists.

For locals, it remains a city centre place to switch off, whether for a swim, a class or a full spa day.

Spa days, classes and treatments can be booked on the One Spa website.
