Alchemy: Goldsmiths Scotland to bring a new jewellery and silver fair to Edinburgh's City Art Centre

Edinburgh is set to gain a major new celebration of contemporary jewellery and silver. Alchemy: Goldsmiths Scotland will open for the first time at the City Art Centre from 15 to 18 April 2027, bringing together 50 of the finest contemporary jewellers and silversmiths from Scotland and across the UK.
The event will combine a four-day selling fair, an exhibition and a cultural programme aimed at buyers, collectors, enthusiasts and professionals. It will also include public events, interactive learning and professional development strands.
Alchemy is led by a four-strong team from the capital's contemporary jewellery and silver scene: Elizabeth Goring, Sarah Hutchison, Bryony Knox and Eda Obermanns. It will be the first event of its kind in Edinburgh since Elements: Festival of Jewellery, Silver and Gold, which ran in the city for nine years until 2021.
The team said there had been a gap in the contemporary jewellery and silversmithing world in Scotland ever since Elements ended, and that all four had felt passionately they needed to fill it. They want Alchemy to be a space where makers, buyers and collectors meet face to face, where new connections are made and old ones rekindled, and they hope it will become an annual celebration. Bringing the idea to life in their home city's City Art Centre, they said, is absolutely thrilling.
The fair is supported by The Goldsmiths' Company and Goldsmiths' Fair as headline sponsors, along with industry partners including Hamilton and Inches, TH March, Argex and The Curious Gem. Harriet Scott, head of Goldsmiths' Fair, said the partnership reflects a shared passion for craftsmanship, and that the Goldsmiths' Company has spent 700 years backing craftspeople.
Applications from makers have now closed, and tickets are due to go on sale in early 2027.
For anyone who loves handmade jewellery, it is a date worth noting for next spring, and a welcome return of a major showcase for the craft in Scotland.
Updates and ticket news will be posted on the Alchemy: Goldsmiths Scotland website.
